AIA Carnival Returns to Hong Kong This December with New Rides and a Winter Circus
The harbourfront is gearing up for its annual transformation as AIA Carnival makes its return to Central Harbourfront this December. Back bigger and brighter for the winter season, the city’s favourite festive playground promises the familiar thrill of rides, games, and live entertainment with a few thoughtful updates that make this year’s experience even better.
As always, the carnival brings a colourful lineup of adrenaline-pumping rides and classic fairground games, with over 30 attractions to explore. New for this year is a more flexible ride pricing system, offering lower rates on selected off-peak days; a welcome change for families, casual visitors, and anyone keen to enjoy the carnival at a slower pace. Adding to the convenience, a digital token system allows guests to top up tokens through a secure digital wallet, meaning fewer queues and more time enjoying the fun.
Live entertainment remains a major draw, and this year’s standout is Gandeys Circus’ brand-new winter-themed production, The Winter World Circus. Expect gravity-defying acrobatics, theatrical choreography, and a frosty visual twist that adds a seasonal layer to Gandeys’ signature high-energy performances. It’s a show that feels festive without leaning into clichés, making it just as exciting for adults as it is for kids.
When it’s time to recharge, the food and drink offerings deliver comfort and familiarity. The much-loved Blue Girl Dai Pai Dong returns, serving up classic dai pai dong favourites alongside refreshing Blue Girl draught beer — an easy win for anyone craving local flavours amid the carnival buzz.
Keep an eye out around the city ahead of opening day, too. Carnival performers will be popping up across Hong Kong, giving passers-by the chance to score free tickets and tokens. Creative types can also enter a special competition with Etihad Airways, where the prize includes one million Etihad Guest Miles, redeemable for group business-class return flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi.
